Call for Nominations for Chapter Officers

NWU Bay Area Chapter #3 elects it officers each year. We use a self-nomination process – in essence your union is asking you to volunteer to run for union office and serve if elected.

Nominations must be received by June 15th, 2005

To volunteer to serve the union as a local officer:
Send your self nomination to one of the addresses below. Be sure to specify the office (or offices) you are seeking. For example, “I am Sally Smith and I am willing to run for the office of Delegate.” Include your candidate statement (who you are and why you should be elected). Keep statements to 100 words.

Officers to be elected:
Steering Committee Co-chairs: 2
Treasurer: 1
At-Large Steering Committee members: up to 10
Trustees: 3
Delegates: 7
o Term for each office is 1 year or until the next regularly scheduled election.
o Any member in good standing may run for office and hold office.
o Co-Chairs, Treasurer and Trustees are called Titled Officers. No member may run for, or hold, more than one Titled Office in the chapter.
oCurrent members of the National Executive Board are not eligible to run for or hold a chapter office.

Positions descriptions:
Co-Chair: The Co-chairs of the chapter officially speak for the local and appoint others to represent the chapter as the need arises. They will be responsible for chairing membership and Steering Committee meetings, or for appointing others to do so. They will be responsible for appointing a recording secretary for each membership and Steering Committee meeting.
Treasurer: The Treasurer will have responsibility for the financial affairs of the chapter and will oversee the person who keeps the records and manage the daily finances. The Treasurer will be responsible for signing, along with at least one of the Chairs, all checks and other financial instruments.
Trustee: Oversight of the Treasurer’s performance will be the responsibilities of the 3 Trustees. Trustees must examine and sign off on the chapter’s books once every six months.
Steering Committee: The SC is responsible for setting policies and allocating resources in the chapter on behalf of the membership. This includes planning local activities and events, approving expenditures, and making official endorsements of issues and campaigns.
Delegate: Delegates to the national Delegates Assembly shall be elected to represent the chapter at the national level, to carry out their duties as members of the highest policy-making body in the NWU, and to act as a liaison between the chapter and the union’s national leadership.
